Whether you live in the country or the city, using DIY rustic home decor ideas will add a country feel to your living space. Use some creativity along with some simple tools and you can create a rustic look to any room in your house.
Suitcase Coffee Table
For a unique and beautiful coffee table, a vintage suitcase or even a stack of them will work. If you only have one suitcase, make sure the surface is flat enough and simple attach legs to it. You will need a drill, a measuring tape, washers and wing nuts along with your table legs. You can buy the legs alone or use the recycled legs from an old piece of furniture.
Simply mark and drill the holes in the suitcase and attach the legs. You can paint the legs or stain them. You can decorate the top of your new suitcase table with a picture, a lamp, a vintage vase or a stack of books to complete the look.
Wood Pallet Bookshelf
Wood pallets are thrown away by many manufacturers and retail stores. If you see a stack behind a store or in a mall, just go inside and ask if you can have them. Very often, they will be glad to give them away.
You can take the boards off of these to use any way you want. You can sand and stain them to get the desired look. You can use 2x4s and 2x10s to create the frame and then tack on the pallet wood to get that rustic and reclaimed look. Simply build a box frame and add shelves where you want. You can use wood glue and a lightweight brad nailer to attach your pallet pieces. You can cut the pallet wood in random lengths and stagger the wood to create an interesting design.
Mason Jar Wall Vase
You can use this idea for any wall in your home. It’s super easy to make. More than likely, you already have a few mason jars laying around. Paint or stain a 16″ board to your desired shade or color. A large metal clamp will be attached to the board and then attached directly below the mouth of the jar to hold the jar in place. Add it to any wall you want.
Lamp With Twine
You can transform any lamp by attaching twine to the base. You can add twine to a lamp shade too if you want or just use a shade that matches this new rustic look. All you need is a hot glue gun and the type of twine or rope that you want to use. Add the hot glue to the lamp and wrap the rope until you get the desired look.
Wooden Photo Frames
If you can make wooden frames, you can add them to any photo or poster to get this look. If you don’t want to make your own frames, just recycle some old frames and sand and then, stain or paint them whatever color you like. You might want to use burlap inside the frame and add black and white photos for a nice rustic look.
Use these DIY rustic home decor ideas to quickly and easily transform your home and get that comfortable, country look you want.
